For months now, there’s been a constant chatter around the Los Angeles Dodgers organization with the sentiment that the franchise should look to trade an outfielder. It was a fair point considering the Dodgers were forced to bench one of their four ‘starting’ outfielders thanks to their abundance of the position. And that didn’t take into account one of their top prospects, Joc Pederson, is a major league ready outfielder.

However, despite the logjam, it doesn’t appear as if the Los Angeles Dodgers are primed to make a move, at least not according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports who says a trade is unlikely.

So why the sudden change? Well, namely injury. While Yasiel Puig has been a constant in right field, the rest of the outfield has been nothing but a MASH unit as Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford have dealt with injuries. Matt Kemp meanwhile, despite a lack of enthusiasm when being moved to left field, has seemingly returned to form and no longer looks to be the burden he was to begin the season. Lastly, the previously mentioned Pederson is dealing with a separated/sprained shoulder and isn’t likely to be rushed to the big leagues at this point given that.

I’m not sure all of that warrants any reason as to why the Los Angeles Dodgers shouldn’t trade an outfielder as they’ll be dealing with the same problems once all players do become healthy, but for now there doesn’t appear to be a rush to make such a move.
