The Dallas Mavericks are one of the potential suitors for Carmelo Anthony, however, some believe his meeting with the franchise was nothing more than a publicity act on his free agent tour. Whether or not that is true, we’ll likely never know. But given the Mavericks can’t afford to give Anthony a max contract unlike some of the other teams interested in signing the All-Star, it seems as if the two aren’t exactly a match.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Given that, the Dallas Mavericks may quickly turn their attention to Houston Rockets forward, Chandler Parsons. The restricted free agent is a target of many teams, however, the Rockets have stated they plan to match any offer he receives.

Of course, that’s something teams with a restricted free agent say quite often in hopes of scaring potential suitors away, but it doesn’t appear to be a concern of the Mavericks who plan to try and sign the small forward if they miss out on Carmelo Anthony.

“Dallas, believing it likely will lose out on both LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, will attempt to sign Chandler Parsons away from the Houston Rockets,” says Chris Broussard of ESPN.

Trevor Ariza and Luol Deng have also been a target of the Mavericks, but Deng is said to be requesting upwards of $12 million dollars per season while Ariza has drawn interest from a significant amount of teams and may be priced out of the Mavericks range.

In addition, Lance Stephenson of the Indiana Pacers has also drawn interest from the Mavericks.

However, Chandler Parsons may be their best fit.
