Defensive lineman Jarran Reed was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in the early morning hours on Sunday morning after he backed into a car while leaving a parking lot, was pulled over and a subsequent field sobriety test revealed Reed’s blood alcohol content was .13, the legal limit in the state of Alabama is .08.
No word on potential discipline for the transfer from East Mississippi Community College at the time of publication, but Saban did release this statement.
"“We are disappointed in Jarran’s actions and this is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players. It is a privilege to represent the University of Alabama and there are responsibilities that go along with that privilege. We’ll evaluate the situation and determine the appropriate discipline so better choices and decisions can be made in the future.”"
This is the standard statement released by Saban as well as other coaches and front-office men from the professional ranks in the hours following the arrest of a player.
It’s the standard, “we’re disappointed in (insert player’s name here) decisions and we will look into the facts of the situation and determine what course of discipline we will take to ensure that no such behavior occurs again.” statement.
Last year, Geno Smith was suspended for the season opener following his DUI arrest, so that should be the expected punishment for Reed.
Reed started in the Alabama spring game on the defensive line, so if he is suspended for the opener vs. West Virginia it will give an opportunity to other players to seize the opportunity, especially sophomore Jonathan Allen.
