The Penn State Nittany Lions are threatening to turn into a recruiting juggernaut under first-year head coach James Franklin. Franklin quickly turned the Vanderbilt Commodores into a team that could actually compete and make bowl games on a yearly basis in the SEC and by playing in a lesser conference in the Big 10 with a team with far greater resources and a much bigger commitment to success on the football field, Franklin should see even more success.

That’s good news for the Big 10, a conference which has consistently come under fire lately (even though the conference sent two teams to the BCS last season – the Michigan State Spartans defeated the Stanford Cardinal in the Rose Bowl and the Ohio State Buckeyes were taken down by the Clemson Tigers in the Orange Bowl).

On Saturday, Franklin was again proved himself on the field when 3-Star wide receiver Irvin Charles gave his pledge to the Nittany Lions.

The 6’4, 212-pounder  is from Haddonfield, New Jersey and attends Paul VI High School. Charles is ranked as the 44th-best wide receiver prospect in the country, the eighth-best overall prospect in the state of New Jersey and the 346th-best overall prospect in the class of 2015, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

Although Charles is considered a 4-Star prospect by 24/7 Sports, the most impressive part about him, on paper, is his list of offers. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Ohio State Buckeyes and Tennessee Volunteers are just a few of the teams to extend offers to Charles.

Charles is commitment number 18 for Penn State in the class of 2015. Their class ranks first in the Big 10 and fourth nationally.
