Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles will not be showing up to training camp, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, due to a contract dispute with Kansas City.
According to Rapoport, the Chiefs running back believes he’s outgrown his current deal with the team and is seeking a long term contract that pays him what he believes he’s owed for his work and his importance to the franchise.
This isn’t all that surprising as running backs always want the big deal when they can get it and the getting is at its absolute best for Charles right now. He’s coming off a spectacular season which was preceded by a tremendous scare thanks to injury which only seems to further confirm why he’d be chasing a big deal now.
There’s no saying he’s going to get the deal he desires but the bottom line is that Charles is one of the Chiefs best offensive weapons and won’t be easy to replace if he’s rubbed the wrong way in negotiations.
