The Sacramento Kings were one of the most proud and talented organizations in the NBA during the early 2000’s. However, that run came to an end thanks to the previous ownership group and the franchise has now missed the postseason for eight consecutive seasons.

More from NBA

Hoping to change that is new owner Vivek Ranadive and general manager Pete D’Alessandro. Thanks to an influx of cash reserve and D’Alessandro’s aggressive ways, the Kings are in the process of re-tooling their roster which includes additions like Rudy Gay and Darren Collison.

Although the Sacramento Kings lost point guard Isaiah Thomas in free agency, when he, DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay were on the floor together last season the team played .500 ball. So can they continue to build off that success and make the playoffs? That’s the hope of D’Alessandro as he told Bleacher Report.

“We want to make the playoffs next season. We want that for our fans,” said D’Alessandro. “We’re trying to make the right moves, but aggressive moves. To me, people say, “Well, it’s the West.” But I don’t want to use the West as an excuse for anything. To me, it should be our opportunity to motivate our guys, it should be a challenge to our players: ‘You’re in the West, so do it in the West.'”

It’s safe to say that the Sacramento Kings will likely improve simply off experience though making the playoffs seems like an outlandish reach, at least currently. With a few months left in the offseason and rumors that the Kings are looking to make a splash, we’ll have to wait until their final roster is complete to speculate on their postseason aspirations.
