Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry missed the team’s preseason opener versus the Cincinnati Bengals on Aug. 7 because of tendinitis in his heel. Unfortunately for Berry, he remains injured and will also be out when the Chiefs take the field against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Head coach Andy Reid to the Kansas City Star:

"“We are going to let it calm down,” Reid said. “He’s been battling this thing, so we will let it get settled down before we bring him back.”"

However, it’s not all bad news for Chiefs fans. Reid added that he expects Berry to be ready to go for the start of the regular season.

"I’m not (worried),” Reid said. “It will calm down. He wants to be out there every day. … We put him out (Tuesday), and it came back. So now we are going to get it where it needs to be, and then we go there.“I give credit to some of these guys that have pushed through some of the injuries, but that one there you just have to back off.”"

While the Chiefs would obviously love to have Berry right now, as long as he’s healthy come Week 1 than this isn’t too big of a deal.

Berry has been named to three Pro Bowls and was named to the First-Team All-Pro in 2013.  The Chiefs drafted Berry with the No. 5 pick in the 2010 draft out of Tennessee.
