It wasn’t known when he would eventually decide upon a team, but according to Scott Lauber a decision is coming in the near future and Rusney Castillo will have a new home. Where exactly that will be is currently an unknown.
The New York Yankees are said to have extremely strong interest in Castillo though there is fear they may not be able to bid high enough to obtain his services simply due to the luxury tax. It’s not that they can’t afford him, it’s more a matter of if they want to do so, especially with Alex Rodriguez’s contract still on the books.
Of course, the Bronx Bombers aren’t the only team with interest in Rusney Castillo as the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs are also said to be intrigued with the slugger. A few of them have already held private workout’s with Castillo, including the Cubs. Another team which did so are the Philadelphia Phillies though they have seemingly bowed out of the chase which is seemingly getting richer by the day.
It’s expected that Castillo will draw a contract similar to the seven-year, $42 million dollar contract the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Yasiel Puig to.
Currently 27-years-old, it’s expected that Rusney Catillo will be able to come in and contribute right away and will need little if any minor league preparation.
