The Cleveland Browns do not exactly have a lot of options in the passing game.

More from Cleveland Browns

That conversation starts, unfortunately, with the fact that stud wideout Josh Gordon had his one-year suspension upheld this week. It continues with the fact that their top receivers are the undersized Andrew Hawkins and the injury-prone Miles Austin.

It does not seem to bode well for Nate Burleson, then, that the veteran wide receiver still was not able to crack Cleveland’s roster.

Mary Kay Cabot reports that the Browns cut Burleson on Saturday morning.

Burleson, 33 years old, is coming off a 2013 season that was mostly lost due to a broken arm sustained while trying to rescue a pizza. In nine games last year, Burleson recorded 39 receptions for 461 yards and one touchdown. He had spent the last four seasons in Detroit as the no. 2 option across from Calvin Johnson.

A notoriously good locker room guy, as alluded to by Cabot, Burleson ultimately has underwhelming results in his career, with just one lone 1,000 yard season all the way back in 2004. He has been a solid NFL player, though one could argue he never met the expectations set for him.

There still might be another shot for Burleson somewhere in the league. As for the Browns, they will now shop for different help at wide receiver.
