San Francisco 49ers release former Pro Bowl talent Kassim Osgood
By Bryan Rose
If you’ve watched the San Francisco 49ers play at any point during the past few years, you’ve probably witnessed some of Kassim Osgood’s impressive skills on display.

Of course, you may not have known it was Kassim Osgood considering he’s not a household name nor is he an effective player on the offensive or defensive side of the ball.
A ‘wide receiver’ by trade, Osgood has all but failed as a pass catcher in the league though he’s continually found a home thanks to his unique ability on special teams. Those skills sent Osgood to the Pro Bowl on three separate occasions, though now 34-years-old, the San Francisco 49ers have decided to cut the former San Diego State star.
This isn’t the first time Kassim Osgood has found himself on the chopping block as the 49ers decided to cut Osgood last season as well, though seemingly had an agreement that he would return (as he did in Week 2) once the 49ers cleared some additional salary and roster room. It’s not known if such will take place again, especially given the 49ers are getting themselves out of $570,000 dollars of guaranteed money that they’d have to pay Osgood if he was on the roster past Saturday.
If Osgood doesn’t return to the San Francisco 49ers, it’s a tough blow to their special teams unit considering the impact he made on coverage during both kick and punt returns.
