The Baltimore Ravens released running back Ray Rice on Monday afternoon and he was suspended indefinitely by the league, following the release of video that shows Rice punching and knocking out his then fiancee and now wife, Janay Rice.

The public outrage following the release of the video was strong and there were reportedly fans in the Baltimore area going to stores to release their Ray Rice jerseys.

According to reports, Dick’s Sporting Goods stores in the Baltimore area were told to pull Rice jerseys from the shelves.

From The Wire:

"Dick’s Sporting Goods stores in the Baltimore area were told to pull Ray Rice jerseys from shelves immediately after the NFL announcement. One store in the area told The Wire that customers have come in to return Ray Rice jerseys. Rice’s #27 jersey was still available for sale online."

The Ravens had stood behind Rice and supported him all summer when the news of the domestic abuse first surfaced, but they ultimately decided to sever ties with the disgraced running back once the video became public.

Rice now faces more public criticism than ever and it seems unlikely that he will ever play in the league again.
