Andrew Luck must be made of magic. Down 24-0 to the Denver Broncos, against Peyton Manning, DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller, a 24-point comeback is just crazy talk. But Luck almost pulled it off. Maybe he would have, if he hadn’t hurried his team to the line of a fourth-and-goal play to attempt a quarterback sneak.

More from Indianapolis Colts

According to Mike Wells of ESPN.com, Luck didn’t look to the sideline after the third down play in which receiver Hakeem Nicks was tackled just short of the goal line. Instead, he called the sneak and tried to punch it in himself.

"“Stupid decision because they loaded the box and we’re prepared for it,” Luck said. “We didn’t necessarily have the personnel on the field for that type of play.”“Bad, bad decision and it cost us seven points or three points or whatever would have happened,” Luck said. “If I take a timeout, change the play, whatever it is. Stupid decision, won’t make it again. Learn from it and keep trucking along and have a good week of practice coming up.”"

Colts coach Chuck Pagano wouldn’t let Luck take the blame.

"“I think as the head football coach, I’ve got to do a better job of managing that situation for our entire football team,” he said. “It’s not on just Andrew.”“I think as the head football coach, I’ve got to do a better job of managing that situation for our entire football team,” he said. “It’s not on just Andrew.”"

At the time, the score was 24-7. Without a turnover on downs there, the Colts could have cut the lead to 24-14 or 24-10 with a field goal. After that, Denver had a hard time stopping Luck and the Indianapolis offense. However, the Colts ended up losing 24-31. Had they scored on that play, the final drive could have been for the lead.

For the most part, Luck looks like a veteran quarterback on Sundays. It was a rare miscue, but something Colts fans shouldn’t worry about him making in the future.
