As was first reported late Monday night, the Buffalo Bills will soon have a new owner as the sale of the team is all but complete to Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula. The team announced the news, officially, on Tuesday. All that’s left now is for the transaction to be finalized at the league meetings next month in New York City.

This is the end of a long, grueling process that began with the death of longtime Bills owner Ralph Wilson. Since then, the anxiety has been at an all-time high among Bills fans, particularly in regards to whether or not the team would be moved.
Aside from Pegula, there was a time when real estate mogul Donald Trump and rocker Jon Bon Jovi were considered serious candidates to buy the team, but it just didn’t work out in the end. Fans really did not want Bon Jovi near their team, as he was tied to an investment group based out of Toronto, which was an indication that the team could be in for a relocation.
But in the end, the fans got exactly what they wanted, as they know that Pegula will not be moving the franchise anywhere, and genuinely seems invested in continuing to rebuild this once proud organization, that has not been the best as of late.
Following the sale, Mary Wilson, the widow of Ralph, released this brief statement:
“This is a very important day in the history of the Buffalo Bills franchise,” Ralph Wilson’s widow Mary Wilson said in a statement. “Ralph brought professional football to Buffalo in 1959 and it was his life’s passion. He loved his team and he cherished the fans and his legacy will remain for all-time. Ralph would have been pleased with the sale of the team to the Terry Pegula family, who has been so committed to Buffalo and the Western New York region.”
