Although Shawn Marion essentially agreed to join the Cleveland Cavaliers about a month ago, the former All-Star forward was still without a contract.

That sentiment is no longer today though as Marion and the Cleveland Cavaliers officially agreed on their presumed one-year, veteran minimum level contract. Cleveland had waited on officially signing Shawn Marion as they didn’t want his roster spot to throw a wrinkle in their trade acquisition of Kevin Love but all of that behind them, Marion’s deal became official on Tuesday.
Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin spoke about the addition in a press release.
“Shawn brings great versatility, talent and championship experience to the team,” said Griffin. “He will impact both ends of the floor and his ability to guard multiple positions will be particularly important for us. Shawn is an accomplished, high-caliber veteran that will help with leadership on and off the court and we’re very happy to welcome him to the Cavaliers family.”
Marion, who last played for the Dallas Mavericks is no longer the player he once was though can still defend at a rather high level.
A four-time All-Star, Shawn Marion will likely come off the bench for the Cleveland Cavaliers though figures to play a rather significant role this season. He was also courted by the Indiana Pacers, though allegedly decided to sign with the Cavs as they presented him the best opportunity to win as his career morphs into his twilight.
Marion, for what its worth, couldn’t contain his excitement when asked about his new team.
“I’m excited to be a Cavalier,” said Marion. “I can see the hunger and mentality of everyone in the organization and l look forward to being a part of it. The goal is to win a championship and that’s what I want.”
