You may recall back in June, former Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber was held for mental evaluation after an incident that prompted a police standoff in Mansfield, Texas.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Little was known about the incident until today as according to TMZ, Marion Barber brought a loaded gun (with multiple magazines) into a local church and began ‘showing it off’. That may have not been the reason for the standoff though as TMZ states a police officer says he overheard Marion Barber suggest he didn’t know the year or where he was.

"When cops got to the church, officers say Barber seemed disoriented — and one cop says “He heard Barber state he did not know what year it was or where he was at.”Cops spoke with a pastor at the church who told them … Barber had been speaking erratically inside the church and “removed his jacket showing the congregants his firearm in public.”"

A doctor from the Dallas Cowboys organization was said to be en route to meet with Barber at the church, though, there was no clarification if such contact was ever made.

News on Barber’s status since the incident has been extremely limited and TMZ states the former running back has not been seen near his home since. Hopefully Marion Barber is getting the treatment he needs and is on the road to health and recovery.

Barber, who played for the Cowboys and Bears scored double-digit touchdowns in two seasons, including 16 total in 2006. He finished his seven-year career with 59 scores.
