Josh Gordon reinstatement is ‘inevitable’

There have been rumors that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, who is currently suspended for the entire 2014 NFL season, could be reinstated by the NFL with the NFLPA set to vote on a new drug policy soon.

But ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi says he doesn’t just think Gordon playing for the Browns this year is possible, it’s “inevitable.”

Grossi writes:

"Gordon, a native of Houston, had no reason to stay in Cleveland during his indefinite suspension. He was locked out of Browns headquarters and unable to have any contact with the team. So why would he stay in Cleveland? To sell cars?What does that tell you?It tells me that that Gordon’s lawyers – probably even the Browns — were tipped that he would be reinstated soon.It’s all dependent on the NFL and the players union agreeing to a new drug policy, which could come as early Tuesday. If the union and the league dawdle, Gordon’s return would be delayed.But his return is inevitable."

It would obviously be an enormous boost if the Browns are able to get Gordon back sometime soon. The star wide receiver is a complete game-changer. He missed two games this past season and still led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards and caught nine touchdowns.

Still, Gordon doesn’t appear to be completely off the hook. Grossi reports that the new drug policy would likely call for a two-game ban for first-time DWIs. Gordon was arrested for DWI in July and would likely be suspended for two games at some point in the season.

But with there seemingly a legitimate chance that Gordon is back on the field when the Browns take on the Saints this Sunday, Cleveland and Gordon has to be thrilled with how this situation could ultimately turn out for them.
