Head coach Al Golden has been trying to turn the Miami Hurricanes back into a national power and that starts on the recruiting trail. The Florida State Seminoles are clearly a powerhouse in recruiting and the Florida Gators continue to pull in highly-ranked classes as well. That’s why when the Hurricanes are able to lock down top-250 recruits like 4-Star safety Kiy Hester, who signed with the Hurricanes in February, it is a big deal.

However, it looks like Hester won’t be suiting up for the Hurricanes.

According to Manny Navarro and Susan Miller Degnan of The Miami Herald, the Hurricanes have released Hester from his scholarship.

"UM football coach Al Golden announced after Monday’s practice that freshman safety Kiy Hester was released from the football team.“He’s got a personal issue at home,” Golden said. “In fairness to the kid, I want to leave it at that.Kiy is a great kid. He’s got an issue at home that he’s dealing with and we released him.”Hester was a 4-star recruit out of DePaul Catholic High in Wayne, N.J. before enrolling at UM inMay. The release now allows him to transfer to another school closer to his home."

Obviously, the Hurricanes were counting on Hester for the future. Hester, who is 6’0 and 200 lbs, is from Wayne, New Jersey and attended De Paul Catholic. Many thought he may commit to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and many believe he could chose to play there.
