When the New England Patriots acquired tight end Tim Wright, there were suggestions hinting the stocky talent could replicate Aaron Hernandez’s former role in the offense.

Of course, being Wright was recently acquired, the Patriots didn’t have much time to implement Wright into their Week 1 game plan though ESPN Boston believes such a move could be coming very soon.

In fact, asked by a fan if Wright’s snap count is likely to increase, Mike Reiss suggested it was possible and that wide receiver Danny Amendola could very well see a reduction.

"I could see that happening in the weeks to come. Maybe it’s reading too much into it, but the one play that stood out to me from Amendola was his 2-yard receiver screen in the third quarter. He just doesn’t look like that explosive player who makes people miss like we saw in the 2013 opener against the Bills."

Tim Wright was targeted just three times during the New England Patriots’ Week 1 loss to the Miami Dolphins and only played on 21 of their 86 offensive snaps. Still, as noted above, Wright didn’t have a lot of preparation time and it seems rather evident that New England needs another offensive weapon in regards to pass catching.

Still, even if such is to happen, Wright is still going to be on the low end of Tom Brady’s target list. That said, if Amendola can’t shape his game up, giving Wright more snaps at his expense may prove to be the correct move for the New England Patriots.
