Some terrible news out of the Arizona Cardinals organization today as linebacker John Abraham could be forced to retire over medical reasons.

More from Arizona Cardinals

Abraham, who has previously played for the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons is in the midst of his second season with the Cardinals though was removed from their Week 1 victory against the San Diego Chargers with concussion-like symptoms. The linebacker was evaluated and according to Adam Schefter, John Abraham is suffering from memory loss and has been for over a year.

The unfortunate news may force John Abraham to hang up his cleats.

As of right now Abraham nor the Arizona Cardinals have commented regarding possible retirement, so that seems to be nothing more than an educated guess/opinion of the part of Schefter. Still, it appears rather obvious that this is an incredibly serious situation (as are all injuries with the head) and John Abraham isn’t going to be seeing the field in the near future, if at all again.

A former first-round pick, Abraham is a decorated member of the NFL as he’s been part of five Pro Bowl selections and named an All-Pro three different times. In addition, Abraham is a member of the 100 sacks club and was named to the New York Jets’ all-time decade team.

Abraham’s best season came in 2008 for the Atlanta Falcons were he recorded 16.5 sacks.
