Georgia vs. South Carolina final score: Gamecocks upset no. 6 Bulldogs, 38-35
By Jack Crosby
Throughout the first two weeks of the college football season, we all wondered who this South Carolina Gamecocks team was that we were seeing. They certainly haven’t looked like the top-level SEC contender we all thought they would be coming into the season, but on Saturday, they did look like contenders as they upset the no. 6 Georgia Bulldogs at home inside Williams-Brice Stadium, 38-35.

This was a back and forth affair throughout most of the contest, and South Carolina were the ones that got it all started early in the first quarter when Dylan Thompson hit Shaq Roland for a 10-yard touchdown to give the Gamecocks a 7-0 lead.
Georgia would then grab a 10-7 lead, but near the end of the first half, Thompson found Pharoh Cooper for this scoring strike to take a 14-0 lead.
South Carolina woud end up taking a 24-13 lead into the locker room for the half, following a sequence that saw Thompson put another one into the end zone.
Early on in the second half of the game, Georgia and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo decided that it was time to unleash Todd Gurley, and he made his presence felt early on in the second half of the game.
But, trying to keep their hopes alive, Georgia would not go down without a fight, and early in the fourth quarter the Bulldogs would cut the lead to 31-28.
However, not long after that, the Gamecocks quickly showed Georgia and everyone watching the game that they were not going to let this one get away from them.
In the end, South Carolina was just too much for Georgia on this night in Columbia and pulled off one of the more stunning upsets of the early college football season.
South Carolina now moves to 2-1 on the season, while Georgia is knocked from the ranks of the undefeateds, dropping to 2-1.
