The start of the 2014 season has been a challenge for the Kansas City Chiefs. Besides the fact that they find themselves off to a 0-2 start, the Chiefs have been affected by injuries as much as any team in the NFL through two games.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The opening game of the season saw the Chiefs lose Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito from their defense for the remainder of the season. As if those key injuries were not enough for a team that has already been dubbed a regression candidate in 2014, the Chiefs lost two players who are arguably even more important on Sunday during their loss against the Denver Broncos.

Running back Jamaal Charles and safety Eric Berry were both forced to leave the game early because of injuries, both with sprained ankles.

According to Field Yates:

On the offensive side of things, Knile Davis filled in admirably at running back. Still, it is hard to imagine the Chiefs going anywhere if Charles is out for an extended period of time. As for Berry, the Chiefs were already thin in the secondary and cannot possibly hope to be relevant without him at safety.

Sprained ankles are not typically serious injuries in the NFL, something that the Chiefs hope will hold true in the cases of Charles and Berry.
