With the game already well in hand in just the second quarter of action, the Buccaneers punted the ball to the Falcons and into the waiting arms of Hester. Always a risk to take a kickoff or punt return to the house, Hester did just that like he has so many times in his career.
It was Hester’s 20th career return for a touchdown. That breaks the all-time NFL record, previously held by the one and only Deion Sanders.
Here is the return itself.
As for the man who previously held the record, ‘Primetime’ was in the house to witness Hester’s moment, which appeared to include an ode to Sanders’ classic touchdown celebration near the end of it.
Of those career returns for touchdowns, 19 came while Hester was a member of the Chicago Bears. When it comes to both kickoff and punt returns, nobody has done it better than Hester. He made that official in the record books with this return on Thursday night.
