Mark Barron picks up turnover, Devin Hester gets ball right back (Video)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are having a really bad night in Atlanta tonight as Thursday Night Football has not been kind to Lovie Smith. After letting the Falcons cut through their defense like a hot knife though butter, the second defensive stand of the night by the Bucs pretty much epitomized how terrible the start to the Lovie Smith era has been.

It’s been a rough night for the defense but Mark Barron thought he had picked up a potentially momentum shifting fumble. The turnover would have stunted the Falcons drive down the field and possibly even given the Bucs some confidence to get some points on the board.
But it wasn’t meant to be — not the Bucs getting point son the board but the Bucs completing the turnover on the play. After Barron picked up the fumbled, Devin Hester snuck up behind him to punch the ball out and recover it thus saving the drive for Atlanta.

This pretty much epitomizes the Bucs season so far as they get so close to getting something done but fall short. They caught a break Week 1 with Cam Newton being ruled out but lost anyways. They got jobbed on a 10-second runoff rule in Week 2 and now can’t even recover and return fumbles correctly.
