The biggest problem that Jerome Simpson has created for himself is the fact that he is a repeat offender. That will get extra attention from the NFL offices, and more importantly, it will get the attention of his probation officer.

More from Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings’ receiver was already suspended and on probation for a drunken-driving arrest last November. That makes his marijuana and alcohol citation from this past July even more problematic.

Simpson did not do himself any favors by not telling anybody, either. Brian Murphy of the Twin Cities Pioneer Press explains:

"Simpson, who is serving a three-game NFL suspension for a November drunken-driving arrest, was cited but not arrested and his tickets did not appear in the Hennepin County court system until Sept. 2.Adult Probation Supervisor Brian Kopperud said the county learned about Simpson’s misdemeanor citations from the Pioneer Press.“We are gathering information on the incident and we will be acting on Mr. Simpson accordingly,” Kopperud said."

Additionally, the Vikings’ front office and coaches did not know about the incident until today. I guess Simpson thought it was just going to go away?

Murphy lays out the terms of Simpson’s probation:

"Hennepin County District Court Judge Cara Lee Neville sentenced Simpson on Jan. 2 and set his probation terms, including:— No alcohol-related traffic offenses— No drug-related traffic offenses— No driver license violations"

Simpson was clearly in violation of those terms with this citation, only adding to his list of problems. As far as football is concerned, it seems like a safe bet that we will not see Simpson back on the field anytime soon.
