The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to craft a winning basketball team but there are just too many obstacles in their way it seems. The biggest of all those obstacles seems to be that the aura and glitz that usually surrounds the Lakers is absent, making the team pretty much barren of free agent appeal.

But there are ways the team can rebuild itself without buying its way out of this funk and that starts by adding little pieces that work. In years past, the Lakers were the New York Yankees of basketball, but this summer has seen moves like trading for Jeremy Lin two years after he was a thing, signing Jordan Hill and adding Wayne Ellington.

The latter move came on Monday afternoon as the Lakers announced they had signed Ellington to a free agent contract.

Ellington is a former first-round draft pick but never really came into his own during his career in the NBA. He’s bounced around and now lands in Los Angeles where he’ll look to rebuild his career.

Los Angeles just needs cheap players as they wait to try and cash in on free agency in 2016. Although why bothers putting off winning until 2016, you just signed Wayne Ellington to a minimum contract — championship.
