Earlier this week Michigan Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke took time to let everyone know that they’d have a starting quarterback named by Tuesday.

“No,” said Hoke about naming a starting quarterback during his Monday press conference. “We will make a decision tomorrow. We will make the decision tomorrow.”

We are now through his public availability this week and no starting quarterback has been publicly named for its game against the Minnesota Gophers.

According to Nick Baumgardner of MLive.com, Hoke refused to answer that question when asked during a radio appearance on Thursday morning.

Last week Hoke pulled starting quarterback Devin Gardner and got a small sample of sophomore Shane Morris. Gardner was pulled after going 14-of-26 passing for 148 yards, two interceptions and being sacked three times.

Morris wasn’t much better though, going just 4-of-13 for 42 yards and an interception in relief under horrible weather conditions.

If Michigan is sticking with Gardner, it’s curious as to why Hoke wouldn’t just come out and say it. There’s really no point in hiding it, as that’s who Minnesota is prepping for anyway.

Yes, the two teams who will battle for the Little Brown Jug for the 101st time on Saturday don’t know who will start at quarterback — at least publicly. It could make what has been a one-sided rivalry a very interesting one to watch.
