It’s been a tough couple of weeks for Minnesota quarterbacks—

Matt Cassel

, who started the first three games for the Vikings, is on injured reserve after sustaining multiple broken bones in his foot last week against the Saints.

Bridgewater, a rookie taken with the final pick in the first round out of Louisville in May, led the Vikings to a 41-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in his first NFL start, but exited with a sprained ankle late in the game.

Former starter Christian Ponder finished up, but did not attempt a pass. Ponder would start Thursday if Bridgewater can’t go.

Bridgewater was 19-for-30 for 317 yards against the Falcons and is 31-for-50 for 467 yards in his first two NFL appearances.

After Cassel was hurt, the Vikings signed McLeod Bethel-Thompson to the practice squad and on Monday added Chandler Harnish to the practice squad.

Harnish, who was Mr. Irrelevant of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts out of Northern Illinois, has never played in a regular-season game. He was with the Colts’ practice squad in 2012-13 and was among the final cuts by the Colts this preseason.

Bethel-Thompson was an undrafted free agent out of Sacramento State in 2010 and played that season for the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League and, after being cut in the preseason by the San Francisco 49ers in 2011, played for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the defunct United Football League.

He has also spent time with the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots and was with the Vikings in 2012-13.

The New England Patriots signed him to their practice squad on Aug. 31, but waived him Sept. 9.
