During the past summer there was noise suggesting the New York Knicks could attempt to trade Amare Stoudemire and his albatross of a contract to the Philadelphia 76ers.

More from NBA

The Sixers of course had no interest in Amare Stoudemire as a player though were interested in his salary considering every NBA team must get to at least 90 percent of the salary floor or face a fine. The problem was Philadelphia wasn’t willing to give the New York Knicks any value in the deal.

Alas, no deal was struck and according to Steve Kyler it doesn’t appear to be something that will be revisited either.

"The 76ers have never wanted Stoudemire… The rumor was about the Knicks trying to dump his contract to get cap space that shipped has sailed."

While having Amare Stoudemire around for another season may frusturate New York Knicks fans, it might be best for all involved. The last thing the Knicks want to do is trade their big man for another poor salary which would eat up some of their valuable cap space at season end.

Hopefully Amare can be a serviceable talent for the New York Knicks and the team can wash their hands of his contract once their season concludes.

For now it doesn’t appear as if any Amare Stoudemire trade is in the works given few can absorb or have the pieces needed to match his salary.
