San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis suffered back spasms after taking a hard hit in the back early in the third quarter of the team’s 26-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. He didn’t return after that hit, but he maintains that it’s no big deal and he plans to return for the team’s next game.

“I’ll be good,” Davis said per the San Francisco Chronicle. “I’ll be fine.”

Eagles cornerback Bradley Fletcher gave Davis a hard lick in the third quarter, which set Davis to immediately jogging to the stadium tunnel and back to the locker room. He briefly required assistance at the tunnel, and never returned to the game. The Eagles were unable to capitalize on Davis’ absence though as the 49ers still overcame a first half deficit to get their first win at the new Levi Stadium.

Davis managed only two catches for eight yards before his injury and the 49ers trailed 21-13 when he left the game for good. It’s hard to explain why the Eagles were unable to stop the 49ers after they lost a weapon, but with the Philadelphia offense stagnant, the 49ers took over in the second half. Colin Kaepernick threw a third quarter touchdown pass to Stevie Johnson, followed by two field goals later in the game to seal the deal for San Francisco.

The team is hoping to have Davis once again when they host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5 action.
