The Green Bay Packers rebounded from a slow start to the season with a convincing win over division rival Chicago Bears. The offense had its way against Chicago after sputtering in previous weeks. However, quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t satisfied even as the team’s lightning-quick offense grows in efficacy. He wants the running game more involved and he doesn’t care how that happens.

Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Rodgers says the running game is still coming along in Green Bay.

"“We just have to find ways to be a little more effective with our yards per carry and being able to convert those first and second downs with runs. Or just put us in manageable situations on third down. We’re going to be aggressive and if we have to throw it to open up the run, so be it, but we need to find ways to get Eddie [Lacy] and James [Starks] 25-30 touches.”"

A solid running game is a quarterback’s best friend and while Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, he still needs that help. The Sentinel-Journal notes that while the Packers had five touchdown drives, none of those drives lasted longer than four minutes, which means the Packers defense is going back on the field gassed even as the team is racking up points.

Such an approach may work against a team like Chicago, which struggles on defense, but Green Bay can hardly expect sustainable success when its defense is constantly on the field, touchdowns or not on offense.

Look for Rodgers to continue to find ways to get his running backs involved to make everyone’s life easier as the 2014 season progresses.
