The Dallas Cowboys lost their first game of the season and rededicated themselves to the run. That decision has paid huge dividends for the Cowboys as they’ve raced out to a 3-1 record behind a balanced offense led by a ground game that has been top-notch.

That ground attack is led by running back DeMarco Murray, who had a 1,000 yard rushing season last year. Through four games this year Murray leads the league in in rushing yards (534) and in touchdowns (five).

He has a league-leading 99 carries as well and is on pace for just under 400 carries on a season, that could be a point of worry for the Cowboys and their fans. Murray doesn’t have a reputation of durability and is oft-injured.

Cowboys owner Jerry jones thinks the team would be wise to use Murray’s back up and shoulder the load.

“If we can, it would be good to have Dunbar with a few more touches,” Jones said Friday on KRLD-FM, via The Dallas Morning News. “But make no mistake about it, Joseph Randle can be effective out there, too. We probably should have at least Randle get a few more snaps. I think he got seven the other day, and you probably could push that up if you’re going to have that many run plays, you probably could double that and be pretty smart about how you’re exposing Murray.”

Murray might be resistant to that idea as he is on pace for a 2,000 yard season.
