Although the Los Angeles Lakers will be without Nick Young for the foreseeable future, with Kobe Bryant, Jeremy Lin and Carlos Boozer in the starting five the team shouldn’t have too many issues scoring the basketball.

That’s something Bryant seems to be aware of, though he does seem to be concerned about the overall team defense.

Lin nor Boozer (the two biggest offseason additions for the Los Angeles Lakers) are not thought to be high quality defenders and in the past have proven themselves to be near liabilities on the defensive side of the court. Under Byron Scott the hope is that both Jeremy Lin and Carlos Boozer will improve their defensive skills though it seems as if Kobe Bryant is still worried the Lakers may struggle on defense.

“It shouldn’t be our focus at all,” Bryant suggested about scoring. “I feel like, instinctively, we’ll all gravitate to what we do best on the basketball floor. But our primary focus is to be great defensively, and that involves taking that challenge every single night and trying to get better at it every single night.

“Personally, that’s really the biggest challenge, because offensively I can always dictate what I’m going to do. Defensively, it’s reacting to things. That’s a challenge that I really haven’t had to deal with yet, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Bryant, while still talented, is no longer the defender he once was either and given the lack of size in the paint for the Los Angeles Lakers it seems to be an understandable concern for the Black Mamba.
