No one expected the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys to have some of the league’s best records heading into their Week 5 clash. But the Texans and Cowboys were both 3-1 heading into the Lone Star State clash.

The intriguing match up here was between the Texans’ defensive front and the Cowboys’ offensive line. For the majority of the first half it was a defensive struggle, the Cowboys getting a field goal late in the second quarter to take a slim lead into the break.

Then Texans running back Arian Foster ran all over the Cowboys defense to march down and give the Texans the lead. Foster had a 33-yard run to get into the red zone, then a 15-yard touchdown scoring rush on the next play.

Foster had 59 yards rushing on that scoring drive, but the Cowboys answered quickly and in pretty amazing fashion. Texans defensive end and sack monster J.J. Watt beat Tyron Smith on the Tony Romo’s blind side, but Romo rolled out to evade the hit and sack. Then Romo threw a 43-yard pass to Terrance Williams in the back of the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown, Williams’ fifth of the season through five games.

The Cowboys kept the scoring going with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. This time a short 2-yard touchdown pass to wider receiver Dez Bryant who got separation off the line before cutting back to find himself wide open. That extended the Cowboys lead to 17-7.

Setting up a thrilling finish, the Texans marched down field to get a field-goal with about two-and-a-half minutes left in the game, narrowing the lead to a single touchdown. The Texans had three time outs left and decided to not go for the on-sides kick and count on their defense to get the stop. The Texans defense did just that and the Cowboys defense ran off only about 20 seconds of clock and the Texans only needed two timeouts. The Texans got great field position after the punt, starting at the Cowboys’ 45-yard line. The offense worked their way down the field in just four plays to get the game-tying score, another Arian Foster run from the 1-yard line.

The Texans kicked the ball deep hoping to get another stop and force overtime or maybe a patented Romo interception. While that is the stigma attached to Romo he has led many comeback possessions. The Cowboys moved down the field utilizing DeMarco Murray in the pass game, running out-of-bounds on his first two catches.

Murray’s third catch got the Cowboys to the Houston 45-yard line and the Cowboys used their first timeout to stop the clock at 12 seconds. An ensuing 8-yard pass got the ball to the Houston 37-yard line.

A short run play and time out got the ball to the 35-yard line and set up a game-winning 53-yard field goal attempt for the Cowboys and kicker Dan Bailey. The Texans used their final timeout to try and ice Bailey, and you could say it worked because the kick went wide and the game was headed to overtime. Leading up to that kick Bailey had a streak of 30 kicks without a miss.

The Texans got the kickoff to get possession first in overtime. A touchdown would’ve given the Texans a win, but a field goal would give the Cowboys a chance to tie or win.

The Texans went to the hot hand in Foster and it looked like they were going to march down the field but the Cowboys’ defense was able to get a stop. The Cowboys got possession back after the punt on their 10-yard line and needed to get in field range to give Bailey another chance at winning the game.

The Cowboys got a huge catch from Dez Bryant to bail out Romo and the Cowboys on third-and-nine from their own half of the field. Bryant made a miraculous catch over a defender to get the Cowboys into field goal range.

On third down the Cowboys sent Bailey out to kick the game winner, and this time he converted to get the Cowboys the win in a thrilling finish.
