A report shows Florida State hindered the sexual assault investigation of quarterback Jameis Winston and ran interference to slow down the rape investigation of their Heisman winner

Jameis Winston was under fire last season when the redshirt freshman quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles was linked to a sexual assault that resulted in no charges being filed, but according to a Fox Sports report, the university “hid and hindered the criminal investigation.”

Winston was embroiled in controversy as he continued to play and lead the Seminoles to the ACC championship, won the Heisman Trophy and led the Seminoles to the BCS National Championship all while many wondered if the school had done enough to investigate the rape allegation against their most high-profile student.

On Friday morning, Florida State released a timeline into their investigation of Winston in an attempt to show their silence wasn’t not to be confused with inactivity.

Later on Friday, the report from Fox Sports was published after their own investigation revealed “university administrators and Winston’s attorney, Tim Jansen, had a head start on the state attorney in Tallahassee responsible for investigating and prosecuting serious crimes.”

Meaning Florida State had a four day jump on State Attorney Willie Meggs was even presented with the case and which he said hindered his ability to conduct a “proper” investigation. They were able to present a defense before the state’s attorney was even aware of such a case even existing.

Among the findings in the Fox Sports report was a series of systematic hiding or delaying of turning over evidence, categorizing the rape allegations as “rumors they could dispel” and failing to notify the school’s Title IX coordinator.

The school only recently launched a Title IX investigation all the while Winston has continued to play for the No. 1 ranked Seminoles, although he was suspended for vulgar language, despite no suspension for his involvement in an alleged rape that reportedly was covered up by the university who did their best to hinder the investigation.
