While Jose Calderon’s defense is some of the worst in the NBA at the point guard position, there’s no denying he’s one of the more efficient from an offensive standpoint which is why the New York Knicks traded for the veteran.

More importantly Calderon is one of the premier setup men in the league and feels that attribute will help him make the New York Knicks a better team this season.

Last year the Knicks were subjected to the game of Raymond Felton which understandably became rather frustrating and that’s not something Calderon is interested in repeating.

“Well, I want to be better,” Calderon said of replacing Felton. “I don’t know if it’s going to be because of me. I’m going to try to do my best for this team to do the best we can do, go as far as we can go. It’s not only one thing. I think we are a team, too many things to say only one position, one weakness. Last year, I don’t know how many wins they had — 30-something — don’t think it’s only one guy.”

While the talent gap between Jose Calderon and Raymond Felton isn’t grand, the fact that the Spaniard will now get to play in the triangle offense should be a huge plus for he and the New York Knicks.

Calderon has proven himself to be a very good shooter and he’s certain to have a significant amount of open looks in the triangle offense. He’ll also be able to use his passing ability to get his teammates open, so needless to say the move from the Dallas Mavericks to the New York Knicks looks beneficial for all involved.
