Could the Toronto Raptors be interested in a trade for Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green in effort to improve their defense and depth?

The Toronto Raptors are hoping to repeat their success of the 2013-14 season with a second consecutive playoff birth though with a target on their back, they understand additional help may be needed.

Could that come in the form of a trade, possibly with the division rival Boston Celtics? It’s possible as Zach Lowe of Grantland notes the Toronto Raptors could be one of the teams interested in Jeff Green, whom Lowe expects the Celtics to move this season.

"The Raptors have bad memories of Joe Johnson bulldozing them in the post, and they have all their own picks, plus the midsize expiring deals linked to Landry Fields and Chuck Hayes."

While Jeff Green is likely to draw some heavy interest around the league, he’s not exactly Rajon Rondo so the Boston Celtics will need to temper their expectations in regards to the type of return they’re expecting. That’s not to say Boston won’t get some decent assets but a first-round pick and an expiring salary or two might be the best type of offer they’ll get and that’s something the Toronto Raptors can afford.

The bigger question is if the Toronto Raptors actually need Jeff Green.

A veteran forward, Green has proven himself to be a very solid rotation player who at times can explode offensively and can be helpful on defense. Of course the Toronto Raptors recently re-signed Patrick Patterson and he and Green both play a similar game (though Green is better defensively) which could be a bit of a problem.

For now there’s no imminent trade talk going on though there does appear to be a fit assuming the price is right for both the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors.
