When Brandon Marshall is on, there aren’t many wide receivers better in the NFL. That’s something the Chicago Bears are well aware of and they’re thrilled they were able to acquire the All-Pro from the Miami Dolphins via trade back in 2012.
That’s a sentiment Brandon Marshall himself agrees with as he’s apparently thrilled to be away from South Beach as he told the Miami Herald.
“Was I surprised? I was surprised, but I was happy at the same time, once Jeff Ireland told me where I was going,” Marshall stated. “I thought it was best for me and my family.”
Marshall of course was a bit of a problem child off the field for the Miami Dolphins and questions regarding his ability to get his head on straight were getting louder and louder. Not feeling as if the risk was worth the reward, the Miami Dolphins traded Marshall to the Bears in exchange for two (at the time) undisclosed draft picks. It wasn’t the first time Brandon Marshall was changing zip codes either as not long before that, the Denver Broncos felt the same way and traded the wide receiver to the aforementioned Dolphins.
The Chicago Bears saw something unique in Brandon Marshall however and decided that risk was worth the reward and so far it’s been a glorious payoff.
“I love Chicago,” Marshall said. “It’s a dream come true. It’s probably one of the only franchises out there with the history that we do. Rich tradition. The city is amazing. I commute, because I love the energy in the town, the people, the fans. It’s everything you want as a professional athlete.”
Nobody knows how things would have turned out in South Beach had Brandon Marshall not be traded, but both he and the Chicago Bears appear thrilled a deal was made.
