Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt wants Dion Waiters to stop shooting so much as he currently leads the NBA in preseason shot attempts.

When the Cleveland Cavaliers brought on both LeBron James and Kevin Love this offseason it was expected roles would change for some of the hold over talent.

That included Dion Waiters though the offensively talented shooting guard recently suggested he didn’t think his role would change much. In fact, he was hoping to have the ball in his hands more often as he’s propositioned Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt to become used more often as a point guard.

Such an invitation was politely declined given both James and Kyrie Irving are on the roster, though Dion Waiters hasn’t given up on his desire to shoot as he currently leads the team in field goal attempts through the preseason. That appears to be something Blatt is aiming to change. Sort of.

“I don’t think he should lead the team in shots,” stated Blatt. “On the other hand I don’t really care. I just want us to take good shots and make them. But we’ll look at it. It’s something we really should look at it and we will.”

The Cavs head coach did give Waiters a bit of a break in regards to his heavy shot attempts against the Dallas Mavericks as the Cavaliers were without a full roster, though it seems as if Waiters’ role is soon to be changing.

All that said, Dion Waiters can still score in bunches and he should see a solid amount of shots within the Cavaliers system even during the regular season. He’ll obviously be behind both James and Love (and potentially Irving) in regards to attempts but he’ll certainly get his. In fact he might be reeled in by Blatt if he decides to shoot a little too much.
