After being destroyed in their first two plus years of 1-A play, Massachusetts has now won two straight vs. FBS teams by a combined total of 76-31. Blake Frohnapfel is the real deal at quarterback, and the defense is one of the better ones in the MAC. Then again, this year that isn’t saying much….

Anyone else think that Alabama was getting tired of hearing stories about their own demise? They took out all of their frustrations on Texas A&M. The defense pitched their second shutout of the season en route to a 59-0 romp of the Aggies. It is entirely possible that the Aggies could finish last in the SEC West. Of course, that would require Arkansas to pull off a couple of those upsets that they have been oh-so-close to doing. This was the first time Kevin Sumlin has been shut out in his entire head coaching career, a span of 86 games.

The UCLA defense continues to struggle. This week it was Jared Goff and Cal’s turn to tee off on this D. The Bears had a good chance to win this game down the stretch, but UCLA came up with a key interception as Cal threw into the end zone for a go-ahead touchdown. Brett Hundley had a down day for a QB against Cal’s horrid pass defense. He “only” threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns, but he also ran for 94 yards.

Ohio State’s offense might be the best in the Big Ten(14) right now. We have seen a lot of supposedly good/great offenses sputter in the conference so far this year, including Ohio State’s early on. They did have an excuse though: It just took new QB J.T. Barrett some time to get adjusted. After another blowout of a mid-level conference opponent, I would say that Barrett has adjusted quite well.

How in the world did SMU put up 24 points on East Carolina?? The Mustangs have just 15 points in their other five games combined.

Indiana actually held a 17-14 lead on number 8 Michigan State on Saturday with five minutes left in the first half. That was short lived. The Spartans shut down the Indiana run game and rattled off 42 unanswered points to cruise to a win. Indiana ran for 207 yards in the first half on that vaunted Spartan defense. The Spartans had only allowed 175 rushing yards in the first half all season leading up to this game. The Hoosiers ended up having to abandon the run because they got so far behind, and freshman Zander Diamont completed just 5-15 passes for 11 yards. That’s right. 11 yards.

That Clemson defense looks pretty good right now. It may be the best that Brent Venables has ever assembled. Then again, the ACC just might be a little offensively challenged…..

Arkansas showed some heart coming back to make the score respectable after trailing by 31 points at halftime. Georgia just came out and dominated the Hogs in the first half. Nick Chubb gashed the Razorback defense that was very good against the run coming into this game. I guess Arkansas was bound to have a game like this at some point. Turnarounds don’t happen overnight, or even in year two in a division as tough as the SEC West. How the Razorbacks rebound next week will say just how far this team has come.

What a dominant performance by TCU. The defense that gave up 61 points in Waco last week held Oklahoma State under ten pts for first time since 2010. That’s right. The Cowboys had not seen single digits in four years!

Cody Kessler set a USC school record with seven touchdown passes against the terrible Colorado defense. It wasn’t all just Kessler though. Javorious Allen had a nice game on the ground as well. The USC offense has been in high gear since the loss to Boston College. I actually think they are my favorite to win the Pac 12 south. I’m not sure the UCLA defense could stop half of the high schools in L.A. right now…..
