Nick Fairley Wants Long Term Contract Wtih Detroit Lions
By Josh Hill
Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley was looking like a bust until he lost weight and turned his game around.
Nick Fairley is a player who has gone through a massive change in less than a year, which is something that may come back to bite the team that didn’t bet on him. Fairley saw his cheap player option declined by the Detroit Lions and he has since turned his career around in the most impressive of ways.

He’ll be a free agent at the end of this season though, which is something that is weighing on the minds of Lions fans more so than it is on a surprisingly not bitter Nick Fairley. Rather than hate the team who busted him down, Fairley recognizes what happened and wants to stay.
According to Kyle Meinke from MLive.com, Nick Fairley isn’t thinking about free agency but wants to start talking about a contract that keeps him in Detroit long term.
"Fairley wants to make his intentions known: If he has his way, he’ll sign a long-term deal to remain with Detroit.“Of course I would love to come back to Detroit,” he said."
Fairley pointed out that he wants to stay in Detroit but hasn’t yet thought about whether or not he wants to test free agency in the spring of 2015.
"“I’m not there yet,” he said. “I’m just going to wait until that time comes. But like I said, I’d love to come back to Detroit.”"
The Lions defense seems to finally be pulling together in a way it looked like it was back in 2011. But just like how things went wrong then, the Lions are facing a situation where Ndamukong Suh and Fairley could hit the open market. Detroit could have avoided this by picking up the team option on Fairley this offseason but they declined to do so in order to motivate Fairley to get into shape.
That has happened and now the Lions will have to pay up big this offseason to bring back their two massive defensive pillars for the future.
