Philadelphia Phillies fans are sitting him watching the World Series be played without their team, but hiring Joe Maddon to change that isn’t in the cards.

The Philadelphia Phillies put together a string of successful years recently but have hit a rebuilding wall and appear to be slow getting up. The team isn’t a force in the NL East, missed the playoffs this season and are starting to shed veterans to get younger. One change that won’t be made though is at manager.

Maddon hit managerial free agency this week when he opted out of his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, but not everyone is falling over themselves to hire him. The Boston Red Sox have already pledged allegiance to John Farrell and the Philadelphia Phillies appear to be doing the same with current skipper Ryne Sandberg.

According to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr is sticking by Sandberg as his man on the bench.

"We have a manager,” says GM Ruben Amaro Jr. “Ryne Sandberg is our manager.”"

It’s worth pointing out that Maddon is a Pennsylvania native but that’s about how far the connection goes. Philly is a legendary city but the club isn’t large market. Maddon is rumored to be linked to the non-vacant jobs in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York and Amaro taking the Phillies out of the conversation ends all speculation about a potential move.
