The Kansas City Royals lost in World Series but seem to have bigger problems on the horizon when it comes to keeping their roster together.

When the Florida Marlins won both of their World Series crowns, they turned around an immediately blew up the team to save money on their payroll. That’s what seems to be the standard for small market clubs these days as they just can’t manage to keep stars around with no money to give them.

That could end up being the case for the Kansas City Royals, as they may have not won the World Series like those Marlins teams but they might have to blow up their roster anyways.

According to Andy Martino from the New York Daily News, the expectation within the industry is that the Kansas City Royals will listen to trade offers on their three biggest hitting stars from the World Series run.

"Alex Gordon, Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas have become identified with a magical year, but the team faces looming decisions and/or escalating salary on each player. The expectation within the industry is that they will at least listen to trade offers."

This seems to be the nature of the beast in the MLB, as small market clubs like the Royals just aren’t allowed to have nice things. That’s not a guarantee that all three players will be gone though, as there is always the chance they re-sign at a hometown discount. But baseball has a way of taking nice things away from teams that can’t afford them, and that could be the case for a Royals team that is finally starting to be respectable.
