Jim Kelly is still fighting. He was declared cancer free in September, but as he continues that lifelong battle, he announced this week that he is dealing with a MRSA infection. As Kelly continues to fight for his health, he continues to have the support of fans everywhere. Furthermore, his fight against cancer has been a source of inspiration for many people.
Kelly’s alma mater, the University of Miami Hurricanes, honored Kelly on Saturday before their game against North Carolina. They named Kelly an honorary captain for the game.
Kelly had the kind of career and sustained success that he will have the permanent affection of both fans of the Hurricanes and Bills’ fans alike. But it’s not just about his career on the field; Kelly is almost universally lauded as one of the truly good guys to have played football at such a high level.
As he continues his fight, now in the form of a recovery from MRSA, Kelly will continue to have support. Saturday marked a great moment for him and for Miami fans.
