The Baltimore Ravens have decided to part ways with cornerback Chykie Brown, releasing him on Tuesday.

Drafted in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Texas, the Baltimore Ravens had high hopes that cornerback Chykie Brown would help to sure up their secondary in the pass-intensive AFC North. That plan has completely bottomed out the Ravens have called the spade a spade. News is breaking that the Ravens have decided to show Brown the door according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

Coming into the 2014 season, Brown was carrying dismal numbers such as zero interceptions and only seven passes defending in 39 games played. It all culminated in Baltimore feeling as if they need to go in a different direction after watching Pittsburgh Steelers‘ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger put up six touchdowns against them in Week Nine. Steelers’ wide receiver Antonio Brown was simply mauling the Ravens’ secondary.

It could be argued that youth needs time to grow and learn, however, it’s now 2014 and if Brown hasn’t learned enough to at least somewhat effect a game or slow down an NFL receiver, he may never. Especially in a division that faces the likes of Cincinnati BengalsAndy Dalton and the Steelers’ Roethlisberger twice a year. Even Cleveland Browns‘ quarterback Brian Hoyer is having quite a year.

The bottom line is the loss dropped the Ravens to dead last in their division which is a far cry from a few weeks ago. They’re still very much in contention to win the AFC North and it’s moves like this that show they’re committed and willing to do what it takes to make that happen.
