The Miami Dolphins won a big game over a divisional foe on Thursday Night Football, beating the Buffalo Bills by a final score of 22-9 to kick off the NFL schedule for week 11.

Final. 22. 59. 9. 16

If the NFL implemented something like the NHL’s “Three Stars” system for each game, it would still be complicated for tonight’s game between the Bills and the Dolphins. You would have to find some way to give stars to all of the Miami pass rushers, as that front was simply too much for the Bills to handle. Kyle Orton was harassed all night, Ryan Tannehill played well, and the Dolphins won 22-9.

This was predictably a defensive battle for much of the first half, with the Bills holding a 9-3 lead into the third quarter. As the game wore on, however, it became clear that the Bills were not going to get anything on offense. All Miami needed to do was piece together a couple successful drives, and victory would be theirs.

Tannehill and the Dolphins did just that, picking up chunks of yard down the field with a number of contributors. Lamar Miller did particularly well, gaining 98 total yards on the ground. Tannehill threw for 240 and a couple touchdowns and pitched in 17 on the ground. As far as the touchdowns were concerned, Tannehill found Brandon Gibson for the first Dolphins’ touchdown:

He then found Jarvis Landry for the second Miami touchdown, with some help from Landry after the catch:

That was all the offense the Dolphins needed, because their defense was dialed in. Two images sum up the night for Kyle Orton and the Bills’ offense. There was this safety, courtesy of an intentional grounding penalty in the end zone:

There there is this. We call this “sad Kyle Orton.”

It was that kind of night for the Bills, who dropped to 5-5 on the season. As for the Dolphins, they are 6-4 thanks to their dominant defense as they grabbed a key victory in the AFC playoff picture.
