Fitbit And Apple Finally Playing Nice?

Fitbit has yet to allow their technology to coexist with Apple’s HealthKit but now there may be a workaround.

Unfortunately, both Fitbit and Apple have been at odds since the former snubbed the latter in saying that they wouldn’t integrate into Apple’s HealthKit. Since then, Apple has stopped selling Fitbit devices at its stores and the two have ceased to coexist. For consumers, there’s now another alternative to sync your iOS device with your Fitbit.

Thanks to a new app called Sync Solver for Fitbit (real creative title), the information collected in a Fitbit device can now be transfered into Apple’s HealthKit. Sync Solver is available on the iTunes App Store for $0.99.

Of course other wearables such as the Jawbone Up are already integrated into the HealthKit structure by Apple, but Fitbit (which owns the largest portion of marketshare at 69%) does not coexist.

A Fitbit spokesperson told Mashable, “It’s unfortunate about the news of not being sold in their stores, but at the end of the day, we are in 37,000 retail outlets and we’re comfortable we will have broad-scale distribution even if we’re not sold in their brick-and-mortar stores. We will very much still work with them as a company — we are the number one fitness app with Apple today and a lot of our users use Apple products, so we’ll have to have a strong working relationship with them.”

While it’s understandable what Fitbit and Apple are both going through, it is the consumer that is getting dropped through the game of tug of war. Considering that neither company is willing to play nice, Apple users aren’t able to as easily track their data, and Fitbit consumers have limited options when it comes to compatible smartphones.

Here’s top hoping the two start to work together, however that doesn’t appear like it will happen any time soon.
