Pablo Sandoval reportedly felt disrespected by the San Francisco Giants before signing with the Boston Red Sox.

Although Pablo Sandoval won three World Series titles with the San Francisco Giants in a five-year span, the man known by so many as ‘Kung-Fu Panda’ decided the grass was greener on the other side and shocked many by signing with the Boston Red Sox in free agency.

Obviously there had to be a reason for such, right? Perhaps the Giants didn’t offer as much money as the Red Sox?

Actually no, the San Francisco Giants did offer as much money as the Boston Red Sox and were reportedly willing to even exceed their offer to retain the third baseman who still decided to leave the only franchise he had ever known. So what was the issue? Disrespect according to Mike Lynch of Boston’s WCVB-TV.

Contractual issues between Pablo Sandoval and the San Francisco Giants were well documented and the two could never see eye-to-eye on the Panda’s worth until the final hours when things apparently became too late.

Sandoval of course also famously was benched during the Giants’ 2010 World Series run and had routinely frustrated the front office with his weight gain, so it’s not as if it was a perfect marraige by any stretch. Still, Pablo Sandoval was one of the most popular players on the Giants roster and it seems perplexing he’d leave considering financials were the same.

For what it’s worth, Pablo Sandoval has noted the idea of eventually becoming a designated hitter intrigued him and pushed the Red Sox over the top, though you have to wonder how fans of the organization will treat Kung-Fu Panda when he goes through one of his trademark 1-35 slumps.
