Assuming there are no snags in the coming hours/days, it looks as if the Los Angeles Lakers will have a familiar face in their locker room as the team is working out the details to sign Earl Clark.

Clark, a former first-round pick out of Louisville hasn’t had much success in the NBA though did play for the Lakers during the 2012-13 season which was the best of his career. That might have been due to the fact Los Angeles gave Clark minutes and freedom to produce where he averaged 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 23 minutes per game.

Now he’s expected to return to Southern California as Yahoo Sports reports the Los Angeles Lakers are attempting to finalize Earl Clark’s new contract.

"As injuries decimate their roster, the Los Angeles Lakers are working on a one-year deal to sign forward Earl Clark, league sources told Yahoo Sports."

Outside of obvious injuries, one of the Lakers biggest weaknesses has been interior play, both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Many expected such coming into the season given Carlos Boozer was their only true man in the middle but he’s undersized and plays extremely woeful defense.

The loss of star rookie Julius Randle in his first NBA game was a devastating blow to the Los Angeles Lakers interior and the hope is that Earl Clark, who has played for multiple other franchises since his Southern California departure, can recapture some of that magic he experienced with the Lakers in his first go-around.

He’ll never be much more than a rotational player though there’s nothing wrong with that, especially for a team lacking talent and healthy bodies.
