The Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers have discussed a trade centered around former All-Star outfielder Matt Kemp.

With Joc Pederson waiting in the wings and too many outfielders on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster, a trade seems inevitable.

Understandably the Dodgers aren’t likely to move Yasiel Puig while Andre Ethier’s contract makes him nearly immovable. That leaves Carl Crawford and Matt Kemp as the odd men out and it appears the Baltimore Orioles have interest in helping the Dodgers alleviate their roster crunch as they’ve discussed a trade centered around Kemp.

That’s the word from Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports who suggests Kemp could potentially be a backup plan for the Baltimore Orioles if they’re unable to re-sign some of their own free agents.

Few players seem to come with more risk versus reward than Matt Kemp who at times looks like an MVP-caliber player. Of course there are also times when he looks like he belongs stapled to the bench, so it’s questionable if the Baltimore Orioles really want to take a chance on the oft-injured outfielder.

Perhaps a change of scenery would benefit the former All-Star though as he’s allegedly soured on the Dodgers after multiple immature spats during the past two seasons.

It’s doubtful the Dodgers would be able to get much in return for a Matt Kemp trade given his massive salary and it’s likely they’ll have to pay a portion of his deal just to rid themselves of him, so perhaps that’s what the Baltimore Orioles see in a prospective deal.

Matt Kemp still has five-years and $160 million dollars remaining on his contract.
