The Cleveland Browns replaced Brian Hoyer with Johnny Manziel on Sunday afternoon but head coach Mike Pettine isn’t committing to him in Week 14 –yet.

When Johnny Manziel came into the game for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon, the controversy for next week instantly began. Even though Brian Hoyer has led the Browns into a position where they are in the playoff hunt in the AFC, he is already someone Browns fans want little to do with.

It may be a ‘what have you done for me lately’ attitude Hoyer is getting from fans, but his coaching staff isn’t so quick to bail on him as starter. While head coach Mike Pettine hardly gave Hoyer a vote of confidence after the loss to Buffalo, he also didn’t name Johnny Manziel the starter for Week 14 either.

According to Mary Kay Cabot from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Pettine will be looking at film from this Sunday to determine the starter for next week.

Manuel may have his opportunity here — finally — but it’s a risky proposition. The Browns are in a delicate place right now as they’re in the playoff hunt but on the outside looking in. At 7-5, they’re tied with basically half the AFC for two Wild Card spots held by teams with at least eight wins.

If Manziel comes in and leads the team to the postseason, he’ll have successfully hijacked Hoyer’s great season. If he fails, then he will be open to more ridicule than Hoyer was, and he’s a guy no one wanted to see succeed in the first place.
